The 25th Anniversary of Informex:  An Opportunity to Move Forward Together

If we have learned anything since the inception of the Informex exhibition 25 years ago, we have learned that scientific advancement rarely happens in a vacuum. More often, scientific discovery is a collaboration of sorts. Like the molecules that combine to form the next advancement in medical science, the next high-tech electronic component, the next composite or the next agricultural success story, scientific breakthroughs happen primarily when people get together and share ideas in pursuit of better technologies.

When the pharmaceutical industry began looking at outsourcing developmental chemistry and chemical production to leverage their own assets, the industry turned to Informex as the place to find suppliers who could meet their need for expertise and high-value chemistry.  Now more than ever, it makes sense for a range of high-tech industries to look at Informex as the foundation for energizing the commercialization of new technologies.

So, on the 25th Anniversary of Informex, we invite you to join with us, not so much in looking back, but in looking forward:

  • Looking forward to the kind of collaboration between suppliers and manufacturers that will foster a continuous supply of innovations

  • Looking forward to the next chemical technology you will help to make a reality.

Looking forward to a celebration unlike any other in the chemical industry. Stay tuned in for more information about the 25th Anniversary special at InformexUSA, January 27-30, San Francisco, California.

Launch your Green Technologies at Informex 2009!

In the past five years, the chemical industry, as a whole, has made a giant leap toward the goal of sustainability. And, this year the public has adopted the issue of sustainability as one of their very own, going so far as to require the companies they buy from to stock “green alternatives” to traditional products. The chorus of requests has become so commonplace with everything from household products to automobiles and more, some product makers created multimillion dollar broadcast advertising campaigns this past year just to tell consumers what they are doing to be “green.”

At InformexUSA 2008 in New Orleans, we sponsored the first roundtable discussion on
sustainability with Scientific Update, primarily to provide chemical makers a check list for building sustainable operations but also to energize the conversation with fresh ideas on how to better support industries further up the supply chain that need higher-value ‘green solutions.’ Given the rising list of end-products consumers want as ‘green formulations’, chemical buyers will almost certainly be looking for significantly more performance-based ‘green solutions’ in the years ahead. Most, if not all, of these solutions will require a collaborative effort up and down the supply chain.

For Informex 2009 in San Francisco, the Moscone Center fits into the "green revolution" as one of the leading expo centers in the country with a cutting edge green plan. With the center’s leading recycling program begun in 1998, nearly 2 million pounds of high-volume materials are diverted annually, with nearly 20% of that total as donations to local area non-profits. The most ambitious sector is a food composting program that captures all organic material from food service operations. This section includes capturing all food material as well as compostable serveware and utensils from all concession and catering locations throughout Moscone North, South, and West. The use of energy efficient lighting fixtures and daylight sensors also helps to make Moscone increasingly green.

Most recently, the chemical industry began hiring CEOs (that is, Chief Environmental Officers) to better manage the collaborative effort geared toward the development of higher-value green chemistry.

Calling All Purchasing Agents

When it comes to buying chemicals, purchasing agents go to InformexUSA with the intention to build mutually beneficial relationships among strategic suppliers. They understand perfectly that successful sourcing strategies are balanced strategies, where the buyer and supplier come together on terms that ensure the chemicals included in the overall production process deliver on the promise of competitive advantage at the end of the pipeline.

Of course, with any purchasing agreement, chemical quality, cost and service will always be key components of purchasing contracts. However, as manufacturers move to ever-more sophisticated production equipment to produce complex products efficiently, and as the market for finished products becomes increasingly global, the role of the chemical purchasing professional will shift well beyond the basics of price, quality and supply.

Informex is dedicated to tailoring the InformexUSA event to the changing needs of the professional chemical buyer. Talk with us. Tell us what we can do to make your buying experience at InformexUSA one that compliments the overall strategic
objectives of your business. Send your requests and comments to Emilio Rouco,
Marketing Director.
We want to partner with you in your efforts to source chemicals you won’t find anywhere else.

Post InformexUSA Survey Results- Who is buying what?

If you are a regular attendee of Informex, you know that fine and intermediate chemicals remain the number-one draw for buyers and sellers alike. But did you know that a number of other markets have strong appeal among buyers and sellers? This year’s Post Informex Survey revealed that half of all Informex community members have a strong interest in Custom Synthesis projects. Approximately 42% of survey respondents also said they were substantially involved in catalysts. The truth is, at Informex, there’s no shortage of technologies to help move your most important projects forward.
